http://thetaxcollege.com/ this one offers free tax education via e-mail in 30 minute segments. You get a certificate if you pass.
http://hrblock.com/taxes/planning/tax_courses/index.html
this one is an offer, but I don't know if its free or not.
http://jobsearch.about.com/od/findajob/tp/tensteps.htm this one provides clues about what to do when you are actually back in the saddle again, trying to job hunt, where to look, how to use your connections, how to ace the interview, and how to follow up.
www.craigslist.com and www.kijiji.com You take your chances with either of them and you WILL GET SPAM e-mails. Its just a part of the job search. I recommend only including a phone number for these if you opt to post your resume. If you reply to a post, beware of scammers.
Other resources I use are:
http://www.coli.org/ The Cost of Living Index as compared to another city. If you are considering trying your luck elsewhere, this is a good resource.
http://www.zabasearch.com/ Need to contact that old college buddy? Want to call him or write him a letter? Try this free search. Better than white pages, in some respects.
www.linkedin.com
(the last is actually a resume poster in disguise, a good, in theory, resource for networking. You can also use it to reconnect with lost friends, lost business partners (aka co-workers), etc.
https://www.tennesseeanytime.org/unclp/details.jsp
For those who live in TN, the unclaimed Property Division. Who knows? Maybe they are holding $$$ for you.
http://www.conexionamericas.org/ContentPage.aspx?WebPageId=18209&GroupId=-1
For me, because I know some Spanish, but I think this is a cool idea
www.vistaprint.com a site that offers free full-color business cards, to make that first impression, but you only have to pay shipping and handling.
http://www.collegegrad.com/jobsearch/competitive-interview-prep/ This is excellent advice for anyone who wants to interview. Not only that, it takes you step by step reviewing what you should and should not do, prepare for, and anticipate. I think I love this one!
http://www.collegegrad.com/jobsearch/Best-College-Cover-Letters/The-Reality-of-Cover-Letters/ Again, here is some really good advice on the cover letter.
http://www.collegegrad.com/jobsearch/Successful-Job-Offer-Negotiation/Are-You-Really-Ready-to-Negotiate/
Again, this site is helpful when the offer is on the table and you are ready to pounce... You may have more leeway than you think. Maybe you can negotiate an extra floating holiday or something for yourself?
http://www.learningelectric.com/access.htm
This one has video and was truly helpful. If it hadn't been so late at night, I would have really enjoyed this. The speaker is a bit droll, but hey, its free. And I pulled my Access average score from around 50 to around 87% with this. Funny enough, I got 100% on both the Basic and the Advanced questions, but I was more challenged, shall we say, on the intermediate side. I will continue working on it.
http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/accounting-software/free-accounting-software.jsp I will have to go home and try this, but it says it is free. Quickbooks is another that I have a bare understanding of. I wish to look more attractive, however, so I will build my understanding of the product. - What I took away from the tours. I think most of the product is intuitive. If you have a good head on your shoulders, you can do Quickbooks. I recommend reviewing the tours yourself.
