A lot has happened

I have begun work in October of 2012 with a Hospital company (a company that owns many hospitals) and this was on a contract basis. In October of 2013 the work had slowed down and I was forced to switch contract companies in order to continue working at the same place but with a different department.

I started as a Compliance Coordinator with Government Programs (ensuring compliance with the existing requirements). I ended up utilizing my paralegal skills in the Appeals department with the attorneys.

In between this I have had my life turned upside down with an impending divorce which is actually an improvement. All of who I am has come flooding back. The good, the bad and the ugly has been what I have had to face, which actually has helped me in my work life as well.

I am striving for a good work-life balance and while I would like a perm position at good pay, I am making ok pay for a very flexible job which has been helpful. My kids and I are adjusting more or less to new normal.

I hope you all are doing well as welll.

Read a post in Fast Company

So I read this post in Fast Company, which often has a lot of common sense articles that really resonate with what we already know and help us to realize it. This one was written by a guy named Po Bronson who was busy describing what he had learned by asking other people how they answered "the Question." The question being: What do I want to do with my life.

He came up with some really interesting conclusions. What floored me was the information was still relevant to today but was written in December of 2002. He interviewed people (yes, anyone can do this) and asked them how they tackled this query and came up with some interesting precepts. Further reading (as the entire 3 artcle deal was extracted from his book) showed that, like so many of us, he'd tried many things, coming up with more and more solutions to existing problems in his own life.

Writing was something he had always been told he was not good at. After attempting a self-directed effort, he discovered this to be true. Apparently, though, he worked further at it and now has a book. You too can get to that point, but... you have to want it. Dont just say you want it. Do something about it. Pro-create.

Kindness still lives

I spoke today with a person, hoping to get into a different field, even if it was to walk, drive, or bike up and down downtown, for a courier delivery service.

He was the president of the company. You could tell he was a good sort, and even offered to take my resume and my husband's and help network. I looked him up on LinkedIn and sure enough he was there. He further explained the salary expectations of what he had now, and the positions he would have coming up.

He runs a family owned business, and perhaps that makes the difference.

I followed up through LinkedIn and thanked him for his time and offer. I also asked him to join my network and furthermore offered to introduce him to any of my contacts.

Granted, my contacts are not presidents or Owners of companies, but I believe that if I, and they, play my (their) cards right and network properly, eventually they will be.

I wish you luck as well. Sometimes it just takes a hand out to get a hand up. Remember it works both ways.
