Free Training Sites on the WWW
Oh my goodness, do you have trouble with Math, Computer Science, and other topics? I recently stumbled upon www.khanacademy.org and I was blown away!!!! This is my go to site for explaining Algebra, Physics, Calculus, Geometry, Civics, and more... Check it out, you (and your kids) wont be sorry. Sal has the best voice, friendly, earnest and willing to help you!
Another good one to explain in very comprehensible (meaning you can understand them and what they mean) lessons in Computer Basics is at: http://www.gcflearnfree.org/computerbasics . I really am enjoying their quick lessons starting at a point that I feel comfortable with, despite the fact I already know more than the average bear, but less than the more certified and qualified. I hope to feel like I can tackle some of the more technical stuff by the end of the lessons so I can feel like its something I can conquer lesson-wise. For a list of all their teaching offerings, which includes some business knowhow: http://www.gcflearnfree.org/topics
The above site has a recommendation for five great websites that can teach you how to improve your typing:
typingweb.com – this site offers straightforward tutorials and typing practice games. It allows you to choose to learn in several different languages and if desired you can earn an official typing certification. However, you must register if you want to track your progress.
Goodtyping.com – this site allows you to choose from over 20 different keyboard layouts for those who reside outside of the U.S. You must register to use the site, but your information is collected for statistical purposes only
Sense-Lang’s Balloon Game – Once you get the basics down, this game is great for teaching you how to type without looking at the keyboard.
Typeonline -The typing tutorials on this site also include lessons on how to use a keyboard number pad for those who may need to enter a lot of numerical data.
Typeracer – You can improve your speed on this site by entering typing races with your friends or others from around the globe. If you are motivated by fun and competition then this is the site for you.
http://www.bcschools.net/staff/AccessHelp.htm#Top For Access Training. Right now I am focusing on my own Access Training. Its the one MS application I need to improve on. This is just a starter course, but it has diagrams and pictures, so it can be useful. It also covers other MS office products
http://www.learningelectric.com/access.htm This one is actually a video training course. You choose your own pace with this one. Best of all it is FREE!!! However, do not do this late at night. The speaker on the course, while very clear and concise, is droll at best.
www.worldwidelearn.com/online-training/linux-course.htm a site that claims to train free? Perhaps its worth checking out further. Another skill to add to the resume!
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mbc.aspx#tab2 This is something I may end up doing. This is a certification program offered through Microsoft to allow you to become the raspberry swirl in this vanilla world (as one site put it). This will help you stand out, for sure, but buyer beware $$$ involved.)
Again, I will add more as I learn. I wish you luck!!! Every skill you can bring to the table is another you can add to your resume. We all need to do this.
