Anime
Anime and its influences
Are you Otaku? It basically is a comical and slightly derisive way to say you love Anime (perhaps a little too much). Anime started way back when they first figured out how to make the little drawn cartoons move by drawing and re-drawing images with only slight movements until they could flip pages and see the character move. Wow. Look at us now. CGI (Computer Generated Imaging) notwithstanding, we have come a long way.
When Mickey Mouse first made his way across the screen followed by other characters in the early 20s, who knew that we'd be seeing things from a broadviewpoint with backgrounds that actually move separate from the characters! It used to be that the backgrounds would be repeated to save money, film, and time. Now we have fans creating art based off the art used in the programs/movies who have been inspired by the original artists renderings. We have entire conventions dedicated to the reenactment of some of the more professionally rendered programs. People dress up as their favorite characters and they parade in the halls of the venue, proudly.
Some of the themes of the movies explore popular fantasy tales and redevelop them in an alternate light (like Ponyo directed by Hayao Miyazaki is a reexploration of the Little Mermaid). Some of them are future fantasies (like all of the Gundam based shows (Gundam, if you are completely new to the concept are robots we control from the inside).
A broad number of Anime are available today, but there are some that consider themselves connoisseurs.
A small listing of Anime is available below.
